Olá, estimados colegas. Há umas aulas atrás, quando falamos do capítulo 3 de Ways of Seeing,  de John Berger, nomeadamente sobre o conceito de perfeição, eu recordei-me da música da cantora Beyoncé – "Pretty Hurts", presente no seu disco homónimo de 2013. Ao longo do videoclip é revelado o sacrifício que é feito pelas mulheres em relação à beleza, para obter o corpo que o mercado define como ideal. Para ilustrar isto no videoclip surgem momentos em que a cantora tem ações que vão em busca da perfeição desejável aos olhos da sociedade. A meu ver, a questão que se coloca é até que ponto prescindimos da liberdade individual para agradar a uma sociedade de consumo, marcada pela efemeridade, que que veicula imagens obedecendo a padrões impossíveis. Ashley Graham is a 29-year-old plus size model that has been breaking barriers in the fashion industry. Graham has been in the cover of the American and the British Vogue , has a swimwear, lingerie and dress line for plus size women, and was the first plus size model to appear on the cover of the magazine Sports Illustrated.  The model is an advocate for body positivity and self-love. She is responsible for the hashtag #BeautyBeyondSize, and has been a huge force in the fashion industry's acceptance of more than the "regular sized" beauty. The model was part of  Glamour 's "Women of the Year" in 2016, and in the same year she was part of  Forbes ' magazine "30 under 30" list. This year Graham's name can be found alongside some pretty big names in  TIME 's magazine "The 100 Most Influential People" list. Antes da apresentação na 4ª feira gostaríamos de publicar umas músicas dos Velvet Undergroud para terem uma noção da arte por eles composta. Como uma das obras analisadas no trabalho é aural, e não teremos oportunidade de a ouvir toda durante a apresentação, escolhemos pô-la aqui. Além disso deixamos mais dois links para músicas que são uma boa introdução à filosofia musical velvetiana (que, desde então, está por todo o lado na sonoridade alternativa). Tenham especial atenção ao carácter repetitivo do ritmo. Até quarta!

Our presentation is going to analyse and research the NGO Adbusters and their (anti)advertisment for Blackspot shoes. The interesting thing in all of this is that they are famous for fighting against capitalism, consumerism and big companies such as Nike, but on the other side they are also advertising their own products and selling them for high prices all around the world. David Byrne, frontman, singer and main songwriter for the band Talking Heads, aksed himself in his book How music works : "Does the venue make music?" Quoting from the TED Talk inspired in this book — "From outdoor drumming to Wagnerian operas or arena rock, [Byrne] explores how context has pushed musical innovation". The question is how the cultural industries, for instance, in the shape of the MP3 format, have influenced the evolution of the music industry. According to Richard A. Peterson, in  "The Production of Culture Perspective",  rock 'n' roll music kicked jazz and swing music from the scene because of new recording techniques and of the evolution of vinyl (313).
